Janette Drysdale's painting " La Vie en Rose" (Through rose coloured glasses) depicts 2 brightly coloured pink buildings, basking in the sunshine. The painting is an escape from reality. The turquoise ocean laps against the sand. The use of shadows and tonal changes is critical in Drysdale's work. The shadows, combined with perspective lines, give the painting a 3D effect. The viewer can glimpse into the room of the buildings as if looking from a nearby balcony. one of the rooms, in the Hotel, has black and white diamond-shaped tiles on the floor. The other is a sofa. One can only imagine who might be staying there. The palm tree is a consistent feature of Janette's work, as are the closed umbrellas. The light and shade give the painting life and take the viewer to an idyllic location.
