Amke’s photography makes you stop and take a breath.
Whether focusing on the detail of a flower petal, or children playing, she seeks to capture the beauty that is all around us and provide us with the opportunity to appreciate it. Subjects range from macro photography to street scenes and Amke does not restrict her eye to a particular genre. “ I love to capture beauty”, she says, “it is in so many different things”.
And these photographs do not just capture the beauty of the world, they are beautiful in their own right. She has been taking photographs her whole life, and her work has all the hallmarks of an accomplished photographer. Composition, colour and light all play beautifully together.

Yet what makes her photographs so captivating is their ability to connect to you, the viewer. Whether taken while travelling or around her home in Western Australia, these photographs take commonplace scenes and reveal their beauty. They take a scene that you might busily pass by every day and enchant you with a detail, a gesture or a contrast that will stop you in your tracks.
As Susan Sontag wrote in ‘On Photography’, “The painter constructs, the photographer discloses” and Amke’s images unveil the beauty that is all around us – if we remember to take a moment to look. They seek to share the emotions that a beautiful image can stir, and this shared experience gives an uplifting sense of connection.
These photographs speak of the joy and wellbeing that beauty can bring to your life.
